Janina Mütze, CEO of the pollster Civey, has written an article in the German business newspaper Handelsblatt arguing that companies should play host to social and political discourse. According to her, workplaces have the ideal preconditions to foster exchanges of opinion since
“they are one of the few places of controversy where we leave our digital bubbles for a moment and come into contact with colleagues of entirely different backgrounds from our own”.
Citing a recent Civey poll, Mütze at the same time warns business leaders against foisting political positions on their employees in a top-down fashion. She instead recommends that leaders at all levels of a company should learn how to initiate and moderate genuinely open debates.
