Antje von Dewitz, CEO of the outdoor clothing manufacturer VAUDE, has called on German corporate leaders to assume more political responsibility. 

Criticizing business leaders who exclusively blame politicians for current societal and economic problems, she says:

“By acting in this way, we reinforce a crisis of trust in democracy, which in my view is far more pernicious than the current economic downturn.”

Instead, von Dewitz suggests, CEOs should actively get involved in the political realm and help tackle today’s challenges as part of an alliance of business, politics, and civil society.
