Deutsche Telekom has launched a campaign against online hate speech under the hashtag #GegenHassimNetz. Together with partner organizations (e.g. Amadeu Antonio Stiftung, Correctiv,), Telekom advocates for respectful interactions on the Internet. The campaign also comprises a TV commercial showing how only a minority of online users spread hatred and encouraging the responsible majority to take a stand.
Christian Hahn, Head of Strategy Marketing Communications and Media at Deutsche Telekom explained in an interview: “We draw attention to this fact: 5% vs. 95%. It cannot be the case that the 95% peaceful people on the Internet provide such a large stage for the few who spread hate by remaining silent. As Deutsche Telekom, we are committed to connecting people. We don't want to give hate a chance.”
