OpenAI
February 2024
OpenAI launched a new AI model called Sora, designed to generate video scenes based on textual instructions. This tool could open up opportunities to create high-quality deepfakes and other forms of misinformation. To counteract this possibility, OpenAI plans to engage policymakers, educators, and artists around the world to understand their concerns and to identify positive use cases for this new technology. They are also building a detection system that can tell when a video was generated by Sora.
Back in May 2023, CEO Sam Altman already recommended to the US Congress the creation of “an agency that ensures compliance” regarding regulation of AI. Collaboration of regulators, governments, companies, academia, and other stakeholders to develop a framework was also a main topic at the recent World Economic Forum.
