Political Participation

Evonik, VW, ALBA, UFA

March 2021

Evonik, Kion, NOMOS Glashütte, VW, UFA, ALBA join forces as pilot companies for the "Business Council for Democracy" (initiated by the Hertie Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Institute for Strategtic Dialogue); focus on digital debating culture to strengthen democracy; "Lunch & Learn" as teaching formats.

Together with employers, the Business Council for Democracy successfully organizes training sessions for employees to promote democratic values, with a focus on how to deal with hate speech, conspiracy myths and disinformation on the internet. The second round began in June, with plans to expand the project to up to one hundred participating companies. "We are very happy to have made the first step with our initiative in the business community in order to support democratic principles."

Project leader Jan-Jonathan Bock points towards the responsibility of companies (FAZ): "Employers and companies play [...] an important role in helping us to be good democrats and good citizens."
